Netflix has decided to allow downloading of shows and movies for offline viewing, meaning that you can carry content with you and watch it everywhere you wish, later, on your mobile device.
Of course, this means that the storage of your mobile phone will run low in no time. Netflix has come to the rescue by letting you downloading content on your external SD card, thus saving your internal memory.
Whenever you now try to save content for offline viewing, the Netflix app will ask whether you want to save the content on your device directly or on your SD card.
There are a few catches to the above convenience. You can only download content to your SD card up to a certain limit imposed by the service. Furthermore, you can only download content that is eligible for offline viewing/download. Lastly, content you download on your SD card can only be viewed on the device from which the content was downloaded from and not on other devices, meaning that your SD card is paired with one device only.
So far the functionality for downloading content on an SD card is only a privilege for Android users using the service. Netflix has not made any announcement yet whether the functionality will become available on other platforms.
